The Short Answer
PromptPerfect, the prompt optimizer from Jina AI, is gone. Its own site says it "will no longer be available after September 1, 2026", following Jina AI's acquisition by Elastic. If you used it to turn rough prompts into better ones, these are the replacements that are live and that we checked on 28 October 2026:
- The Prompt Index Prompt Optimizer + Prompt Generator (ours). Free daily use, no card, shows every change it makes.
- PromptBuilder.cc. The closest like-for-like paid tool, with version history and a Chrome extension.
- PrompTessor. Low-cost plans with prompt scoring and API access.
- AIPRM. A template library that runs inside ChatGPT and Claude.
- Google's prompt optimizer (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, formerly Vertex AI). For teams building on Gemini.
- Anthropic's Metaprompt. A free notebook for developers on the Claude API.

What Happened to PromptPerfect?
PromptPerfect was one of the first dedicated prompt optimizers. You pasted a prompt, picked a target model, and it rewrote the prompt to get better answers from ChatGPT, Claude or Midjourney.
In October 2025 Elastic acquired Jina AI, the company behind it, and the notice now on PromptPerfect's site points users to Jina's AI search and embedding products instead. It reads:
"Following Jina AI's acquisition by Elastic in October 2025, PromptPerfect will no longer be available after September 1, 2026."
Other prompt-tool makers also reported that PromptPerfect stopped taking new sign-ups in June 2026. We could not find that date in an official Jina or Elastic notice, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed. Either way, the service is closed, and anyone who relied on it needs somewhere new.
Also closing: OpenAI's dataset-backed prompt optimizer. OpenAI's docs say it is being deprecated with the Evals platform, which becomes read-only on 31 October 2026 and is scheduled to shut down on 30 November 2026. That's why it isn't on this list.
What to Look For in a Replacement
Most PromptPerfect users wanted one thing: paste a weak prompt and get back a stronger one, quickly. Before you pick a tool, check these points:
- Model targeting. Can you say which AI the prompt is for? A good prompt for Claude is shaped differently from one for an image model.
- Shows its changes. You should be able to see what changed and why, not just receive a longer prompt.
- Keeps your meaning. The tool should keep your facts and intent, and not pad a prompt that is already good.
- Free tier you can actually test. Run a few of your real prompts before you pay.
- Saving and history. Somewhere to keep the versions that work, so you aren't hunting through chat threads.
- Optimizer and generator. Sometimes you have a draft to improve. Sometimes you are starting from a blank page.
- API, if you need one. Developers who used PromptPerfect's API need a tool with programmatic access.
- Honest limits. Read the caps. "Unlimited" plans often have a fair-use ceiling in the small print.

1. The Prompt Index Prompt Optimizer + Prompt Generator
Disclosure: we make this one. Here's why we think it's the best fit for most former PromptPerfect users, and when it isn't.
The Prompt Optimizer does the job PromptPerfect was known for. Paste any prompt, choose who it's for (Any AI, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, an image model like Midjourney or Flux, or a coding agent like Claude Code or Cursor), and press Improve. It keeps your facts and intent, fixes what is vague, adds the missing format and constraints, and marks every change with a reason. If your prompt is already strong, it says so instead of padding it.
The Prompt Generator covers the blank-page case. Describe the task in plain words and it writes a structured prompt with a role, task, output format and limits. You can let it pick a framework or choose one yourself (CO-STAR, RISEN, chain-of-thought and more). Basic and Pro add an Expert mode where you build the prompt section by section.
Behind both tools, the main model is Claude Haiku 5.5, with fallbacks to another model if it is busy. When a prompt works, save it to PromptShare or share a public before-and-after link. And if you'd rather start from something proven, the prompt database has hundreds of free prompts to adapt.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026):
- Free: 2 optimisations and 2 generations a day, 5 saved prompts. Without an account you get 1 of each a day.
- Basic, $9.99 a month: 5 optimisations and 10 generations a day, 50 saved prompts, Expert mode.
- Pro, $29.99 a month: 50 optimisations and 100 generations a day, 999 saved prompts, plus the site's other Pro tools. Right now your first month of Pro is free with code
FREEat checkout (see plans).
Both paid plans can also be paid 12 months up front for 20% less.
Pros
- Free daily use with no card and no account for a first try.
- Shows every edit and why, so you learn as you go.
- Optimizer, generator, prompt library and saving all on one site.
- Targets image models and coding agents as well as chat models.
Cons
- Daily caps are low on the free plan (2 a day).
- No public API.
- No browser extension; you copy the prompt into your AI yourself.
When it isn't the right fit: if you called PromptPerfect from your own code, you need an API, so look at PrompTessor or a developer tool such as Google's optimizer or Anthropic's Metaprompt. If you want to improve prompts inside the ChatGPT window without switching tabs, PromptBuilder's extension or AIPRM will suit you better. And if you rewrite hundreds of prompts a day, a credit-based plan may work out cheaper than our daily caps.
2. PromptBuilder.cc
Best for: people who want a polished, paid optimizer and generator with history, much like PromptPerfect was.
PromptBuilder turns a rough idea into a prompt tuned for the model you pick (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Grok and others). It also improves existing prompts. Every refinement is kept on a version timeline you can roll back, and a free Chrome extension lets you use it inside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. It also publishes its own PromptPerfect migration guide.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026): free plan of 5 credits (5 generated prompts), no card. Starter $9 a month for 1,000 credits, Pro $19 for 3,000, and "Unlimited" $49, which its pricing page says includes 12,000 credits a month before usage may be limited. Yearly billing saves 20%.
Pros
- Version history with rollback.
- Chrome extension for in-chat use.
- Generous credits on the paid plans.
Cons
- Free plan is 5 prompts in total, so it's a trial, not a plan.
- No developer API listed.
- The "Unlimited" plan has a 12,000-credit fair-use ceiling.
3. PrompTessor
Best for: low-cost paid use, and developers who need an API.
PrompTessor analyses a prompt, gives it a score with guidance, and rewrites it. It also generates prompts for text, image and video models. A prompt history keeps every version across generations and optimisations. It is independent and not affiliated with PromptPerfect, Jina AI or Elastic.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026): Free, 5 prompt uses a month. Pro $10 a month for 1,500 uses, Pro+ $15 for 3,000, Max $20 for 5,000. All paid plans include public API and MCP access.
Pros
- Cheapest paid entry point here.
- API and MCP access on every paid plan.
- Scores tell you why a prompt is weak.
Cons
- Free tier is 5 uses a month.
- Scores are the tool's own judgement, so test the output yourself.
4. AIPRM
Best for: people who mostly reused ready-made prompts and want them inside ChatGPT or Claude.
AIPRM is different from PromptPerfect. It doesn't rewrite your prompt. Instead it adds a library of community and verified prompt templates to ChatGPT and Claude through a browser extension, with private templates, favourites and custom lists. If you leaned on PromptPerfect mainly to get good starting prompts, AIPRM may cover it.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026): AIPRM says every customer can use the free version "for an unlimited time". Its paid plan prices sit in a live pricing table we couldn't read on the day. The pricing FAQ's own example uses AIPRM Plus at $10 and AIPRM Pro at $33, so check the current table before you buy. Prices are in US dollars, exclude sales tax, are non-refundable, and are subject to yearly price indexation.
Pros
- Works inside the chat window.
- Large template library, some verified by AIPRM.
- Free version with no time limit.
Cons
- Not an optimizer: it won't fix your own prompt.
- Community templates aren't tested by AIPRM.
- No refunds, and prices rise with indexation.
5. Google's Prompt Optimizer (Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform)
Best for: developers and teams building on Gemini in Google Cloud.
Google's optimizer, part of the platform formerly called Vertex AI, rewrites system instructions and prompts. It has three modes. The zero-shot optimizer is fast and needs only your prompt. The few-shot optimizer learns from examples where the model's answer missed. The data-driven optimizer runs batch jobs that score prompts against your labelled samples and metrics. It works through the Google Cloud console or the SDK.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026): Google's docs don't list a separate price for the optimizer. You need a Google Cloud project with the right permissions, and normal Google Cloud model charges may apply.
Pros
- Can measure prompts against your own data, not just rewrite them.
- Good for moving prompts between Google models.
Cons
- Needs a Cloud project, IAM roles and some setup.
- Built for Google's models, not ChatGPT or Claude.
- No simple paste-and-go web page.
6. Anthropic's Metaprompt (Claude Cookbook)
Best for: developers on the Claude API who want a free prompt generator they control.
Anthropic's prompt-engineering docs point to the Metaprompt, a notebook in the Claude Cookbook. You enter a task and it writes a full prompt template for Claude, which you can then test on examples. Anthropic says it's for single-turn prompts, not multi-turn chats, and that the output is a starting point to iterate on.
Pricing (checked 28 October 2026): the notebook is free; each run uses your own Claude API key, billed per token.
Pros
- Free, open and from the model maker.
- You see the full metaprompt and can edit it.
Cons
- Needs an API key and a notebook.
- Writes new prompts; it doesn't edit an existing one.
- Claude only.
How to Migrate Your PromptPerfect Prompts
PromptPerfect is offline now, so you can't export from it any more. Your prompts are probably scattered across old chats, notes and docs. Here's how to rebuild your best ones in about ten minutes:
- Gather what you have. Search your ChatGPT or Claude history, notes app and docs for the prompts you used most. If you exported from PromptPerfect before it closed, open that file.
- Pick your top five. Start with the prompts you used every week. The rest can wait.
- Paste each into the Prompt Optimizer. Set "For" to the AI you'll use it with and press Improve. Read the marked changes and keep the ones that match what you meant.
- Lost the prompt but remember the job? Describe it in the Prompt Generator and it will write a fresh one.
- Test it on a real task. Run the new prompt once and compare the answer with what you used to get.
- Save it to PromptShare with a clear name, so the working version lives in one place.
Want more starting points? Browse the free prompt database, or read Prompting Like a Pro and our GPT-5.6 and Claude Fable 5 prompting guide to see why the optimizer makes the changes it does.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PromptPerfect shut down?
Yes. PromptPerfect's own site says that, following Jina AI's acquisition by Elastic in October 2025, PromptPerfect will no longer be available after September 1, 2026. Other prompt-tool makers reported that new sign-ups closed in June 2026.
What is the best free PromptPerfect alternative?
For most people, The Prompt Index Prompt Optimizer. It's free for 2 optimisations a day with a free account (1 a day without one), needs no card, works for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, image models and coding agents, and shows every change it makes. We make it, so test it on your own prompts and compare.
Which PromptPerfect alternative has an API?
Of the tools we checked, PrompTessor includes public API and MCP access on all paid plans (from $10 a month on 28 October 2026). Developers on Google Cloud can use Google's prompt optimizer through its SDK, and Claude API users can run Anthropic's free Metaprompt notebook. The Prompt Index has no public API.
Can I still export my prompts from PromptPerfect?
No. The service closed after September 1, 2026, so exports are no longer possible. Rebuild your most-used prompts from your chat history, notes or any earlier export, then improve and save them in a new tool.
Is OpenAI's prompt optimizer a good replacement?
Not for long. OpenAI's docs say its dataset-backed prompt optimizer is being deprecated with the Evals platform, which becomes read-only on October 31, 2026 and is scheduled to shut down on November 30, 2026.
Do I need a different optimizer for image prompts?
Not necessarily. The Prompt Index Prompt Optimizer has an image-model target for tools like Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion and Flux, and PrompTessor also handles image and video prompts. Text-only tools such as Google's optimizer and Anthropic's Metaprompt are built for chat models.
