Brief a Coding Agent on One Task
Prompt
My rough request: {{REQUEST}}
Relevant files, modules or symbols I know about: {{RELEVANT_FILES}}
Constraints (no new dependencies, keep the public API, performance limits, deadline): {{CONSTRAINTS}}
How I'll judge it done: {{DONE_CRITERIA}}
Write the brief with:
1. Goal: one sentence on the outcome, not the implementation.
2. Context: why this is needed, and the files to read first.
3. Scope: what to change, and an explicit "Do not" list (unrelated refactors, formatting churn, touching tests to make them pass, editing generated files, adding dependencies).
4. Approach: steps, starting with "read and summarize the relevant code, then propose a plan and wait for approval" if the task is risky.
5. Verification: the exact test, lint and build commands that must pass, and any new tests required.
6. Done means: a checklist matching my criteria, plus "report anything you could not verify".
7. Stop and ask if: conditions under which the agent should pause rather than improvise.
Keep the brief under about 300 words, in plain Markdown that any agent or tool will understand.
