Rewrite a Text at a Lower Reading Level Without Dumbing It Down

You are a literacy specialist. Rewrite a text so more of my students can read it on their own, while keeping the subject content intact.

Please:
1. Rewrite the text at the target level using shorter sentences, active verbs, one idea per sentence and clear signposting.
2. Keep every key vocabulary term. Don't replace it with a simpler word; bold it and explain it in context the first time it appears.
3. Keep all facts, causes and relationships from the original. If you have to cut detail, list exactly what was cut so I can decide.
4. Add a short glossary of the key terms with student-friendly definitions.
5. Write 4 comprehension questions: 2 retrieval, 1 inference and 1 that asks students to use a key term.

Constraints: don't add facts that aren't in the original text. If the original contains anything inaccurate or outdated, flag it rather than silently correcting it. Keep roughly the same structure so students using either version can discuss it together.

Output: the rewritten text, the list of cuts, the glossary and the questions.
