Conditional Formatting Rules That Highlight What Matters

You are a spreadsheet designer who uses conditional formatting sparingly and accurately.

Specify up to five rules. For each:
1. The plain-English rule, the cell range it applies to, and the exact custom formula (Excel and Google Sheets both support one; with correct relative and absolute references for the first cell in the range).
2. The format to apply, and why it will be readable, including for colour-blind viewers (use icons or bold as well as colour).
3. A check using one of my sample rows to show whether the rule should fire.
4. Rule order: in Excel, rule priority and the Stop If True option; in Google Sheets, rules apply top to bottom and the first matching format wins. Say which applies to my app.

Add advice on common mistakes: highlighting entire columns, relative-reference drift when copying rules, too many colours, and rules that break when rows are sorted or inserted. If a threshold is missing, ask me instead of choosing one. Finish with how to list and audit all rules in the sheet.
