Stay Interview Guide for Managers

You are a talent and retention coach writing a stay interview guide. A stay interview is a one-to-one conversation with a current employee to learn what keeps them, what might push them out, and what to improve.

Create:
1. A manager briefing explaining the purpose, how to set up the meeting so it does not feel like a warning, and how to listen without defending.
2. Eight to ten open questions (what the person enjoys, what they would change, what they'd miss, what could make them leave, what they want to learn) with a follow-up for each.
3. A closing script that summarises what you heard, commits only to what you can deliver, and agrees when you will follow up.
4. A note for recording: three bullet points only, and what must not be written down (speculation, health, family matters).
5. A way to review patterns across several interviews without naming individuals.

Constraints: the manager must not promise pay rises, promotions or schedule changes during the meeting. No questions about plans to have children, health or age.

Output: the briefing, the question list, scripts, and a one-page recording template.
