Break a Big Assignment Into Dated Milestones
Prompt
The assignment (type, length, brief summary): {{ASSIGNMENT}}
Deadline: {{DEADLINE}}
Today's date: {{TODAY}}
Hours a week I can give it, and any busy weeks: {{AVAILABILITY}}
What I've done already: {{PROGRESS_SO_FAR}}
Plan it:
1. Break the work into stages that suit the assignment type (for an essay, for example: understand the question, research, plan, draft, revise, reference check, proofread).
2. Estimate hours for each stage and say which estimates are most likely to run over.
3. Schedule backwards from the deadline, leaving a buffer of at least 2 days before it, and around my busy weeks.
4. For each stage, give a "done when" test (for example "plan done when every paragraph has a point and a source").
5. Suggest 2 check-in points where I should ask my tutor a question or get feedback, if the course allows it.
Output: a table (stage | dates | hours | done when), then the 2 stages where students most often get stuck on this type of work.
Constraints: if the time left isn't enough, say so plainly and suggest what to simplify. Don't write any of the assignment content.
