Logline Workshop: Five Versions, Then You Choose
Prompt
My book: {{BOOK_SUMMARY}}
Protagonist and what they want: {{PROTAGONIST_GOAL}}
Main opposition (person, force or flaw): {{OPPOSITION}}
Step 1. Tell me in one line what the irreducible story is: who, wants what, against what, or else what.
Step 2. Write five loglines of 25-40 words, each built a different way:
A. Character-first (an adjective that implies a flaw, then the goal).
B. Situation-first (the inciting incident, then the dilemma).
C. Irony-led (the contradiction at the heart of the story).
D. Stakes-led (what is lost if they fail).
E. Question-led (ends on the dramatic question, no actual question mark).
Step 3. For each, one line on what it gets right and what it leaves out.
Step 4. Tell me which elements of my summary never made it into any logline, because those may be subplot rather than spine.
Rules: no clichés such as "in a world where", "must race against time" or "everything changes". Use only story facts I've given you; don't add twists.
