Pre-Mortem: How Could This Study Fail?
Prompt
Study summary (question, design, sample, measures, analysis): {{STUDY_SUMMARY}}
What a reviewer in my field would care about most: {{REVIEWER_CONCERNS}}
Tasks:
1. List the ten most likely reasons the study could fail or be rejected, grouped as design, sampling, measurement, analysis, practical and ethical risks.
2. For each, estimate likelihood and impact as low, medium or high, with one sentence of reasoning. These are judgement calls, not probabilities.
3. For the five most serious, propose a concrete change to the plan that reduces the risk, and say what it costs me in time or scope.
4. List the assumptions my plan makes that I have not tested.
5. Suggest a small pilot or check I could run in the next month to find out if the biggest risk is real.
Do not cite studies or invent evidence about how often such problems occur. If a point depends on conventions in my field, tell me to check with my supervisor or recent published methods sections.
Output as a risk table, then the five fixes, then the pilot.
